This tests your EQ (emotional intelligence, or maturity). Having stressful days, or suffering from professional disappointments, comes with the territory of any job. Everyone handles the stress of disappointment or setbacks differently. What the interviewer is gauging is how it affects or correlates with your performance level. Many people find that performance incentives can be very motivating and yet others find them to cause anxiety. The nuance of this question can be answered with when and where performance incentives are appropriate. When using performance incentives as a form of bribery, the benefits are rarely sustainable and come at a cost to the departmental budget. However, there are occasions where they can be utilized as a valuable tools, depending on the circumstances of the situation, and how they are strategized. Talk to the interviewer about your feelings regarding performance incentives and how they may or may not affect work performance.

Making mistakes is human. It is how we deal with our mistakes, which is the true mark of one's character. The interviewer wants to know if you take actionable steps to remedy your mistakes before bringing them to the attention of our superiors, and if you take responsibility for your own actions. Lastly, the most important aspect of this question is whether you take your setbacks in stride, and turn failures into success by distilling the situation into a life lessons that you apply to your successes moving forward. By not repeating your mistakes, you shore yourself up for repeatable success. Give an example that demonstrates how you took responsibility for your error and fixed it. Also, what you learned from the experience as a result.
