Question 22 of 40

How would you compare your current job to that of an underwriter?

If the interviewer asks you this question, it is most likely because you have not previously worked as an underwriter. They want to see if you have transferrable skills to help you succeed in the role. An underwriter is responsible for evaluating insurance applications and deciding whether or not to approve them. They have to weigh each application's risks and benefits and ensure the company is not taking on too much risk. Look at your current job, see what skills would easily transfer to the underwriter position, and share them with the interviewer. Also, let the interviewer know that if you were chosen for the job, you would be excited to take on the challenge and learn as much as possible.

      Answer Example

"My current job as a loan officer involves reviewing many documents, analyzing them for financial risks, conducting research, communicating with clients, and time management. I believe these skills are equally important for the job of an underwriter and will transfer nicely into this position. Additionally, I have an excellent understanding of the tasks an underwriter needs to perform, I learn new assignments quickly, and thus I believe I will be a perfect match for this job."
