1. You should hire me because I am well acquainted with the arts and is willing to learn more about working in the museum industry and I am aware that this is a security job. It takes a great deal of attention and assertiveness to successfully complete this action and I believe that I have enough experience to fulfill these tasks. I do not cause much trouble and willing to learn from my mistakes. I have a consistent work ethic and I usually get along well with my peers and supervisors.
2. With many years experience of customer service which is what you are asking for I feel I would be the perfect candidate for the role. I already work within the museum industry so I feel the skills I have already learnt within my previous job would be beneficial to this one, though of course I am looking forward to learning new skills in this role. You ask for someone who is used to cash handling and since I have had cash handling experience for the last 30 years I feel I would fir in well to the role. I have proven myself to be responsible enough to be a key holder in my previous job and I am aware how important security would be in their job. I am responsible for all aspects of security in my job and currently patrol the building and test various security equipment. I am friendly and reliable and I feel I would fit in perfectly with the team here.

1. Working as a supplemental instructor I noticed that a non-traditional Native American student, was discouraged after failing an exam. I had worked with her in study sessions and knew she was getting the material. I went to the professor and we figured out a plan to help her out and to keep her from dropping out of college.
2. I worked in retail for a bit, especially at Aerosoles which they always stressed customer service. The goal was to sell at least 2 shoes per transaction. We had to greet the customer, tell them the promotion, ask them what they were looking for, suggest 4 pairs similar to what they were looking for, explain the product material wise and benefit wise, then have them try on. This thoroughness shows that the they took the time and effort to connect with the customer, therefore giving the company a good reputation.
3. An experience I had regarding my attention to detail was trying to sell shoes to a customer at Aerosoles. The company believes in actively engaging with the customer to adhere to their needs. So, I had to greet them, tell the promotion, then ask what they were looking for, then suggesting up to four pairs of shoes for them pertaining to that style, explain the technology and benefits to the shoe clearly and then successfully sell them leaving the customer satisfied.
4. My favorite place to be at my old job was at self check out. Since I do have the tendency to sweat the small things I was concerned when I noticed a sudden influx of Rhode Island IDs for very young looking customers buying alcohol. I looked it up one night when I got home and realized that Rhode Island IDs are one of the most commonly faked IDs so I brought it to my manager's attention to let the other cashiers know to be extra careful when checking said IDs.

It has taught me to stay strong and establish a sense of authority.

1. Being a supplemental instructor to a diverse group of traditional and non-traditional students with varying levels of understanding required me to address all of that in study sessions. I was pulled aside on many occasions as students were struggling with various issues, such as the Native American student. I am an empathetic person and really wanted her to succeed, especially as an older Native American woman....
2. Another instance was at my same job in retail. I feel that retail is a good industry where you meet all kinds of people. So there was a lady who was looking for shoes in her size, which was a size 12. Very rarely we hold this size. I could relate because I also have big feet and it is hard to find stylish shoes my size.
3. Recently a lady at work was going through some personal issues and was quite often emotional. I listened to her problems and if things got too much I advised her to take some time out to compose herself. This helped the work environment so she wasn't upset in front of visitors and so she didn't feel pressurised.
4. Often the lines for our regular registers would get backed up during our busy hours, so if self check out was slow enough I would find someone with a small order and just ring it up for them on the machines. This made the customer happy because they didn't have to wait in as long of a line and it made the cashiers happy too since they didn't feel like they had to rush with their current customers.

1. As a former computer programmer who at times would have upper management standing behind me as I was debugging a problem with a program, I understand how to get people to step-back and allow the problem to be fixed without pointing fingers as that is counter-productive. It is important to take a deep breath, systematically work at fixing the problem, and then taking action to make sure it doesn't happen again. That can mean putting more procedures in place or perhaps more training.
2. I would say working with a group of people coming in from a convention and being the only one on the register as well as sales floor. I try to check them out as efficiently as I can, but I usually keep my calm since I prefer not to lose it in front of people I barely know since it may ruin the company's reputation.
3. We had a large group turn up unannounced when they should have booked a group visit in advance. They also wanted refreshments which weren't prepared. We already had a large group visiting so I split the group into 4 seperate smaller groups and sent them off in different directions to make the museum less crowded. With them organised I then went to sort out their refreshments for the end of their visit. By dealing with calmly and methodically it made the situation less stressful.
4. Our customer service desk got held up on Christmas eve last year. The store was packed full of customers so the extra chaos of a robbery was alarming and a little distracting, but I was able to stay calm and keep everything running smoothly.
9. Provide an example when your ethics were tested.

3. I worked with one person who would often go against company policy and pocket high dollar catalina coupons for himself. I noticed that he had acquired an oddly high number of these and told him I wasn't comfortable accepting all of them at once. He later got fired for repeated coupon offenses.
10. Name a time when your patience was tested. How did you keep your emotions in check?

1. I am usually a patient person, so it takes a lot for me to get impatient with someone.
2. We recently had a lady visiting the museum who didn't want to pay. It's free to visit the museum shop so she spent quite a while in there before constantly trying to look around the museum for free! I wasn't sure whether she knew that the entrance fee was very minimal so I started a conversation with her where I could slip into our chat how cheap it was to look around. I showed her where to purchase her ticket and she had an enjoyable visit.
3. Self check out is a delicate system, its easy to tip off the sensors and make mistakes so of course people will get frustrated. I always did my best to fix the problem and help the customer understand why the machine did what it did and how to avoid it in the future, but some people of course wont listen. So instead of getting frustrated and lashing out I stood by and helped as much as I could; They wouldn't be there for more than 2 or 3 minutes anyway.

1. I would say when someone was looking for a particular pair of shoes in a certain style, we did not have that style in particular so we had to call another store nearby so that we may reserve that pair for the customer. Oftentimes, we would even order the pair of shoes for them through the online store.
2. Recently a group visited and were expecting activities on offer for the children. Usually we only have these activities on offer on special event days so the group were unhappy they weren't on offer with it not being an event day on this occasion. I got the group organised into 2 separate smaller groups and left them to look around the museum. While they were busy looking around I found some activities that we usually only offer to school visits so I got these prepared and let the leader know there were activities for their group to do. It led to a happy visit.
3. I didn't know where things were located in the store for a while, and it was frustrating to not be able to properly direct people to the item they were looking for. So while I was working overnights I really took the time to memorize where all the items were and what isle number they were in. Despite a major remodel and a few re-arrangements I still know where just about every item is located in the store so I can give quick and accurate directions.

2. An effective method is to explain what is offer throughout the site. If the group would like a demonstration on how things work I am happy to accommodate them with this.
3. When trying to inform customers about things they might not otherwise be interested in, I've found some level humor is always good if it can be appropriately be worked into the situation. Where humor is not okay being straight forward and genuine is always the best way to go.

1. I'd say I've dealt with a difficult person working at my current job. I usually keep my cool in this situation by informing them about the prices, but often we get those customers that complain about how the prices are too high so we explain why. Then they ask if we have discounts which we do not give at all. So I proceed to further amplify this by asking my supervisor to confirm this and it's settled.
2. I recently had a lady who wasn't happy at having the pay an entrance fee. I think she was expecting the entrance fee to be expensive but as it's quite minimal I struck up a conversation with her and explained what the entrance charge was, what the charge covered and where she could buy her ticket. She had an enjoyable visit after initially being upset in having to pay.
3. I had one older customer who used to always try to flirt with me and the other female cashiers. He made me and the others incredibly uncomfortable, but instead of being rude we brushed off his advances as kindly as we could and moved him in and out of our lines as quickly as possible. If he ever overstepped any boundaries management was notified instead of us trying to handle it ourselves.

1. (Confession)"Some people would consider the fact that I have never worked in a museum before as a weakness. However, as my recent anthropology degree hopefully shows, I love to learn and am highly trainable and open minded, I have no pre-conceived notions on how to perform my job.â€
(Recovery)"Working here will give me the opportunity to learn the job the way you want it done. In addition, although I have no former on-the-job experience, I do bring a recent anthropology degree with over 10 years professional technical and business experience which can only enhance my ability to learn extremely quickly.â€
Honestly, I get a little nervous doing public speaking, but fortunately, many of the classes I took while finishing my degree required a presentation along with a project. This really helped me to get more comfortable it and the key, of course, is to be prepared and know as much as you can about what you are presenting.

User Answers
1. I am knowledgable, experienced, and highly qualified for this position. I have admired this particular museum since its opening in 2003, and have made repeat visits. This museum is a sort of sanctuary for me, and I would love to serve in its continued operation.
2. I am extremely eager to return to volunteer here and believe my recent anthropology degree and love of anthropology and our natural world and understanding of how important it is to protect it, combined with my energy, enthusiasm, and previous work experience and concomitant skills make me a viable volunteer. My passion to work for the best interests of all combined with a general working knowledge of museums and the bones, stones, and specimens housed within will allow me to quickly contribute meaningfully within the framework of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
3. I have grown up going to this museum for every school field trip, which has fueled my interest in art even more. I have a supplemental knowledge of the fine arts, due to the art history courses I have taken over the years, that I can share with the visitors over the years. I am punctual and consistent, and I use my passion for the arts to motivate me throughout life, since many are quick to overlook it. I have appreciated visiting one of the oldest museums of the South that everytime I visit, I am reminded that each of these works have a history about them that must be told.
4. I consider myself to be the best candidate because of my knowledge/experience and passion for the arts and my work ethic, I am consistent enough to where I wouldn't mind keeping busy especially in something that I am genuinely interested in. I believe that my experience as a candidate will give me a lot to learn about in the museum industry. I find that the arts are thriving in New Orleans, yet there is an underrepresentation of it because many would rather seek medical positions because they bring in more money. However, I think it's more than the money, and I pursued the arts because of their penchant to create stories and embrace individuality for the sake of well being and representation.
5. With already working in a museum for the past 20 years I feel I could bring the experience gained in my present role to this job and use the skills I have learnt while also learning new skills as the job progresses. I have had over 30 years experience of face to face customer service which I know is a requirement for this role. In my present job I am aware of how important security monitoring is which will also be required for this role. I currently work in the museum shop and am responsible for all cashing procedures which will be useful since you ask for a candidate with cash handling experience.

1. Ask them politely to stop what they were doing and be understanding if it were a child or tourist unfamiliar with English who may not understand the signs regarding touching or photographing artefacts if they did not comply I would raise the issue with a more senior or experienced member of staff.
2. If the patron's actions posed any threat to collection pieces, I would step in and ask the patron to refrain with threat of potential removal if the behavior did not cease.
3. Well, that would depend on your policy for how a volunteer/employee should handle this type of situation. If I am to approach the person, I would do what is outlined by your policies, which I assume would ask to approach before things got out of hand and to approach in calm and polite manner while informing the patron of the rules.
