How to Make a Great Impression at your Job Interview

Before you step even say a word at your interview, your nonverbal communication is doing a lot of talking. During the handshake, during the way you walk, whatever it is, your body is sending communication that unfairly your interviewer is judging on.
Here are some tips to giving off great nonverbal communication for your next job interview:
  • Posture: Stand and sit upright. Show some energy and confidence in the way you are. A good posture can do a great deal towards your confidence level.
  • Eye Contact: Always try to look the interviewer in the eye. Be careful though, a death stare is dangerous.
  • Fidgeting: Stay still.
  • Handshake: The first encounter in an interview. Always try to give a strong handshake, but nothing where you are hurting the interviwer.
  • Dress to Impress: Make sure you are well groomed and wearing appropriate attire. There is nothing that will hurt you worse than wearing blue jeans when you should be wearing a suit.
  • Remember Names: When you first walk in, you will meet the receptionist, maybe another office worker. On the way out, be sure to say Good Bye (NAME), maybe even throw out a nice to meet you (NAME) have a nice day, to whoever you have met before.
  • Positive Facial Reactions: Stay positive and somewhat energetic through the interview. Do not overdue it or that could be costly.
  • Briefcase: Carry something professional so you can look like you will represent yourself professionally well in the job.

  • This does not have to be as hard as it sounds, if you feel you will be too nervous, just be yourself.
