The interviewer would like to know that you are socially responsible and a team player - even outside of the workplace. Your answer can be as simple as babysitting your grand-kids every Sunday, to a standing-volunteer gig, to charitable contributions.

How to Answer
We all like to be recognized in some way for our accomplishments in the workplace. Share with the interviewer how you would like to be recognized for your hard work. Through gifts? Financial perks? Public recognition? Kind words? Title promotions?

11. When have you shown a willingness to learn a new method or new approach to solving a problem?
How to Answer
It is a great skill to have when you are able to approach a problem in a new way. Discuss with the interviewer your ability to approach a problem using new methods.

12. Tell me about a time when you had to troubleshoot to solve a problem.
How to Answer
Troubleshooting is like reverse engineering - it takes skill, effort and patience. You have to understand the problem in order to know how to work backwards from it to find a solution.
Knowing how to solve problems with technical equipment is always a solid skill, and a great way to demonstrate your example. Show that you are insightful in your approach.

"Last week, while operating the till, I was receiving a repeated error. I entered in a few different codes but that didn't solve the issue. I then did a hard reset, removing all power sources. Then, I referred to the online manual for additional suggestions. It took a little time and patience but I was able to resolve the issue without calling a technician."

13. What career path interests you the most in this company?
How to Answer
This is where it is really important to have completed some research on the interviewing company. Be sure to envision where you can see yourself fitting, and growing, with the organization prior to your interview. Do some research on what a career path could look like with this particular company.

"What interests me most about your company is that there are so many options when it comes to career growth. Ideally, I would like to earn my way into a Territory Sales role, then a Regional Manager position. Eventually, a Director of Sales or Marketing position would be ideal. Of course, I understand that this will take many years of dedication and hard work."

14. Would you be willing to work over 40 hours a week?
How to Answer
Before answering scheduling questions, it's important to be clear on expectations. If you haven't had a chance to clarify their scheduling needs, now would be the perfect time to ask!
Consider asking, "What are the scheduling expectations for this position?" If they expect you to work 12 hour days, it would be important for you to know that before you respond with, "Absolutely! No problem!" You want to be sure that you can meet their expectations.
If it turns out their schedule expectations won't work for you, think about what you can offer and see if you can meet in the middle. It's much better to discuss these things in an interview than for you to commit to a schedule that won't work for you.

On a scale of 1-10, how skilled are you in communication? Why did you choose that particular rating for yourself?

How to Answer
There are many ways that you can be a fit for a position, even though you do not come with direct industry experience. Think about the variety of skills that you have and how those can benefit another employer, despite the industry. These are your transferable skills and they can include sales abilities, customer service experience, and software skills.

17. Tell me about a time when you were unable to meet a project deadline. How did you react?
How to Answer
Nobody is perfect! The interviewer knows that there will be times when deadlines are not met, and projects go sideways. What they really want to know is - how do you react? Are you someone who will have a workplace temper tantrum or are you the type to keep plugging away, despite the perceived failure?
Perhaps you simply underestimated the depth of the project or maybe you faced a distraction at work. Whatever the situation was, discuss what you learned from the outcome. Show the interviewer that you do not have a defeatist mentality.

18. How often do you discuss work with your colleagues in order to think up new systems and styles of working?
How to Answer
Do you use your creative mind with your colleagues in order to discuss ideas and systems in the workplace? Talk to the interviewer about how you have used creative thinking in the workplace.

"I have a policy with my team that if they have an innovative and helpful idea they can bring it to me at any time. If their idea or system is something that I think could work, we then create a plan together to present it to our head office. This policy has generated some really strong ideas in our office over the past 3 years including a work-share program and some health and safety initiatives."

19. How many days were you absent from work last year?
How to Answer
A part of being a diligent employee is to ensure that you are always on time and present when expected. It's great to even be 10 minutes early rather than just showing up right on the dot. Talk to the interviewer about your attendance.

"I had zero unexcused absences last year. In total, I took 12 vacation days out of my 15 allotted days. I was sick just 2 and those were accompanied by a note from my Doctor. Once I was late due to a terrible snow storm and I always try to be 10 minutes early for my shift."

20. Tell me about yourself.
How to Answer
Open ended questions are some of the hardest to answer in an interview. It's important to train yourself how to talk about yourself. It may sound a little silly, because you've been talking about yourself for years!
In an interview, you should leave out the highly personal stuff. No need to talk about your new puppy or your favorite foods. Keep it professional and concise. Interviews typically last for about thirty minutes to an hour, so keep that in mind as you prepare. Sometimes practicing with a friend or timing your response can help.
Focus on your interest or passion for the field, your education and accomplishments. Keep it relevant to the job at hand! Also consider the fact that there is plenty of time for you to talk about your skills and strengths during the interview, so you don't have to say it all in one gulp.

How to Answer
Terminating an employee is never a task that people like to do. Talk to the interviewer about how you go about employee terminations. What does that conversation usually look like?

"I have had to terminate employees in the past, yes. These terminations generally stemmed from missed targets or insubordination. I find it challenging to terminate employees because you do care about them and their well being. I have to remind myself that I did absolutely everything that I could to ensure their success but, at the end of the day, I cannot carry the full weight."

How to Answer
You can have fun with this question and choose a family member, friend, mentor, author, or celebrity. Just be sure that you can back your answer! A great way to keep this conversation going would be to ask the interviewer the same question in the end.

27. If you had $50,000 to build your own business, what would you do?
How to Answer
If money was no object, what kind of business would you start? The interviewer will be able to learn something new and unique about you through this question. Avoid answers that would include building a business that competes with the hiring company.

How to Answer
Even though it may seem like a dream job, the interviewer wants to know that you have realistic expectations of the role and that you will not be blindsided if problems or challenges present themselves. Keep you answer simple. It is absolutely okay to ask for clarification on the role if you do not fully understand what challenges are in store for you.

"I think the greatest challenges in this role will be to learn the proper operation of the software systems. Another challenge will be the physical aspect of the position as I will be required to stand and walk around most of the day. How to Answer
Show your confidence to your interviewer by explaining your willingness to be part of the team and not being afraid to pick up the slack when needed, but make sure you don't allow someone to take advantage of you.
