Question 27 of 35

Describe to me your last manager. What did you like and dislike about their leadership style?

"My most recent manager cared a lot about the success of the company and always ensured that we were properly trained and up to date on new happenings within the company. I appreciated that she made an effort to regularly meet with me to discuss my progress towards my career goals. Something about her style that was a challenge at first was how hands-off she was as a manager. I worked on most projects independently and had to clarify ambiguity on my own or with the help of my colleagues. For that reason, I can successfully work independently but also look forward to the team collaboration between supervisors and shift workers that can be expected at Starbucks."

      Focus Your Answer On

Focus on what you liked about your manager and what made them a good leader. You might explain how their mentorship has influenced your own leadership style and career aspirations. While you should focus on the positive when describing your manager, you should be honest and share any challenges you encountered working with them. Just make sure you put a positive spin on those challenges so it doesn't come off as you badmouthing your previous employer.
